NEC has developed a mobile router capable of providing broadband communications from high-speed mobile vehicles through the combination of WLAN and 3G technologies. The compact mobile router is said to deliver seamless roaming through wireless IP technology, while delivering stable communications up to 6Mbps under a speed of 200km/per hour. NEC has also aimed to achieve direct in-vehicle communications in the area of ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems), in expectation of providing security support for ITS and railway companies, as well as instant delivery of images and voice between information centers and vehicles, such as ambulances.
